SHL assessment preparation

Use your SHL assessment invitation to identify the exact test, then practise the relevant numerical, verbal or logical reasoning skills.

Identify the assessment before choosing practice

SHL is a provider, not the name of one universal aptitude test. An invitation may specify different abilities or job-focused tasks. Read the named assessment, instructions, deadline, supported device and any permitted aids. Do not assume an old online description has the same format as your current invitation.

A practical preparation sequence

  1. Read the official candidate support and use the provider's own examples for interface familiarisation.
  2. Try the relevant untimed skill practice here and check each explanation.
  3. Identify your error type: reading, selecting figures, calculating, or applying a logical rule.
  4. Practise short focused sessions before adding timing pressure.

Numerical, verbal and deductive skills

For numerical tasks, identify units and denominators. For verbal tasks, base conclusions on the passage rather than outside knowledge. For deductive problems, test whether a conclusion holds in every arrangement satisfying the rules. These are distinct skills; a strong arithmetic score does not replace careful reading.

Original worked example

A service team processes 180 requests in three hours at a constant rate. How long would 300 requests take at that rate? The rate is 60 requests per hour, so 300 requests require five hours. The transferable skill is matching quantity and time units. This is our own example, not an SHL item.

On assessment day

Follow the rules in your invitation. Check the permitted calculator and notes policy rather than assuming all tests allow the same aids. Arrange a suitable environment and ask the provider or recruiting contact about access needs before starting. Our practice player does not reproduce SHL's interface or scoring.
