    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 2.92

    Downstream speed is 24 km/h, so time = distance / speed = 70 / 24 = 2.92 hours.
  2. 2. A boat moves upstream at 6 km/h. How long will it take to cover 81 km?
    1. 13
    2. 15
    3. 12.5
    4. 13.5

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 13.5

    Upstream speed is 6 km/h, so time = 81 / 6 = 13.5 hours.
  3. 3. A boat travels downstream at 22 km/h and upstream at 9 km/h. Find its speed in still water.
    1. 12.5
    2. 18.5

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 15.5

    Still-water speed is the average of downstream and upstream speeds: (22 + 9) / 2 = 15.5 km/h.
  4. 4. A boat travels downstream at 21 km/h and upstream at 9 km/h. Find the stream speed.
    1. 3

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 6

    Stream speed is half the difference: (21 − 9) / 2 = 6 km/h.
  5. 5. A boat covers 30 km downstream and returns 30 km upstream. Its still-water speed is 16 km/h and stream speed is 6 km/h. Find total time.
    1. 2.86

    4. 4.36

Reference: q-88969589-137 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 4.36

    Time = 30/22 + 30/10 = 4.36 hours.
  6. 6. A boat moves downstream at 19 km/h. How long will it take to cover 48 km?
    1. 2.03
