Instructions for this set
Use the original value as the base for relative change. Distinguish percentage points from percentages. All figures are hypothetical.
A calculator is allowed. Write the original quantity, change factor and requested unit before calculating. For two successive changes, multiply factors. For a changing share, calculate the underlying counts before comparing them. Round only the final answer when requested.
Answer keys and reasoning checked 19 October 2026. These checks do not establish psychometric validity.
Feedback mode has no time limit or negative marking. The optional timed challenge allows 15 minutes and uses the scoring shown on its rules screen. Those settings are not official assessment rules.

1. A US supplier records monthly sales of US$80,000. Sales rise by 12% and then fall by 5% from that new level. What is the final monthly sales value?
- US$85,120
- US$85,600
- US$83,600
- US$89,600
Reference:
q-897eafa9-148· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: A. US$85,120
First calculate 80,000 × 1.12 = 89,600. Then 89,600 × 0.95 = US$85,120. Adding 12% and −5% would incorrectly use the same base for both changes. -
2. An Australian support team closes 1,380 tickets this month, 15% more than last month. How many tickets did it close last month?
- 1,173
- 1,200
- 1,224
- 1,365
Reference:
q-ff3e88f8-128· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: B. 1,200
This month is 115% of last month: 1,380 = 1.15 × original. Divide by 1.15 to get 1,200 tickets. Subtracting 15% of 1,380 uses the wrong base. -
3. A UK training course completion rate rises from 28% to 35%. What is the relative percentage increase in the completion rate?
- 7%
- 20%
- 25%
- 35%
Reference:
q-5ad2fe2a-125· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: C. 25%
The rate increases by seven percentage points. Relative to the original rate, 7 ÷ 28 × 100 = 25%. A seven-point increase is not a 7% relative increase. -
4. A UK service package is listed at £120. A 15% discount applies to the list price, after which a fixed £6 booking charge is added. What is the total paid?
- £102
- £105
- £106
- £108
Reference:
q-c39489d7-154· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: D. £108
The discounted package costs 120 × 0.85 = £102. Add the fixed £6 charge after the discount: £108. The charge is not itself discounted. -
5. An Indian workshop has 16 equally productive workers making 960 units per day. It increases the workforce to 18. Assuming unchanged output per worker and the same working day, by what percentage does daily output increase?
- 12.5%
- 11.11%
- 18%
- 20%
Reference:
q-236a71bb-223· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: A. 12.5%
Output per worker is 960 ÷ 16 = 60 units. Eighteen workers make 1,080 units, an increase of 120. Relative to 960, 120 ÷ 960 × 100 = 12.5%. -
6. In April, 40% of 500 customer orders are online. In May, 30% of 700 orders are online. What is the percentage change in the number of online orders from April to May?
- 10% decrease
- 5% increase
- 10% increase
- 25% decrease
Reference:
q-32a0b855-167· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: B. 5% increase
April has 0.40 × 500 = 200 online orders; May has 0.30 × 700 = 210. The count rises by 10 ÷ 200 × 100 = 5%, despite the online share falling. -
7. An Australian warehouse reduces its damaged-parcel rate from 18% to 15%. What is the relative percentage reduction in the rate, rounded to two decimal places?
- 3.00%
- 20.00%
- 16.67%
- 83.33%
Reference:
q-cbfd629d-159· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: C. 16.67%
The reduction is three percentage points on an original rate of 18%. Thus 3 ÷ 18 × 100 = 16.666…%, which rounds to 16.67%. Divide by the original 18, not the new 15. -
8. A UK venue has a weekly advertising budget of £2,500. It cuts the budget by 20%, then increases the reduced budget by 25%. What is the resulting budget?
- £2,375
- £2,400
- £2,625
- £2,500
Reference:
q-9b1af500-153· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: D. £2,500
The reduced budget is 2,500 × 0.80 = £2,000. Increasing that by 25% gives 2,000 × 1.25 = £2,500. The factors 0.80 and 1.25 multiply to one. -
9. An Indian office increases its monthly supply budget from INR 36,000 to INR 41,400. By what percentage must the new budget be reduced to return to INR 36,000? Round to two decimal places.
- 13.04%
- 15.00%
- 11.54%
- 86.96%
Reference:
q-1a8e37e6-188· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: A. 13.04%
The reduction required is INR 5,400. Its base is the current INR 41,400: 5,400 ÷ 41,400 × 100 = 13.043…%, or 13.04%. The earlier increase was 15%, but reversing it uses a different base. -
10. A US monthly software subscription rises by 10% and then by 20% from its new price. The final price is US$132. What was the original monthly price?
- US$101.54
- US$100
- US$102
- US$92.40
Reference:
q-9a1e8aff-148· Report this questionShow answer and solution
Answer: B. US$100
The combined factor is 1.10 × 1.20 = 1.32. Original price = 132 ÷ 1.32 = US$100. Dividing by 1.30 would incorrectly add the two increases.
