  1. 1. Rs. 429 is divided between A and B in the ratio 6 : 7. Find the smaller share.
    1. Rs. 165
    2. Rs. 297
    3. Rs. 198
    4. Rs. 231

Reference: q-92db4e6d-79 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. Rs. 198

    Each part = 429 / 13 = 33. The smaller share = 6 × 33 = Rs. 198.
  2. 2. If A : B = 4 : 3 and B : C = 7 : 3, find A : C.
    1. 11 : 6
    2. 28 : 9
    3. 4 : 7
    4. 4 : 3

Reference: q-8a85ce75-48 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: B. 28 : 9

    A/C = (A/B) × (B/C) = (4/3) × (7/3) = 28/9, so A : C = 28 : 9.
  3. 3. Find the fourth proportional to 4, 12 and 7.
    1. 15
    2. 2.33
    3. 19
    4. 21

Reference: q-2379ece8-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 21

    If 4 : 12 = 7 : x, then x = 12 × 7 / 4 = 21.
  4. 4. Find the mean proportional between 9 and 25.
    1. 15
    2. 16
    3. 17
    4. 12

Reference: q-ea0c7560-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 15

    Mean proportional = √(9 × 25) = √225 = 15.
  5. 5. Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 5 and their sum is 70. Find the difference between the numbers.
    1. 30
    2. 50
    3. 20
    4. 24

Reference: q-605767da-97 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 30

    The numbers are 2x and 5x with 7x = 70, so x = 10. Difference = 3 × 10 = 30.
  6. 6. Rs. 330 is divided between A and B in the ratio 4 : 7. Find the larger share.
    1. Rs. 300
    2. Rs. 270
    3. Rs. 120
    4. Rs. 210

Reference: q-6c4eeba5-78 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. Rs. 210

    Each part = 330 / 11 = 30. The larger share = 7 × 30 = Rs. 210.
  7. 7. If A : B = 6 : 2 and B : C = 4 : 7, find A : C.
    1. 12 : 7
    2. 6 : 7
    3. 10 : 9
    4. 21 : 4

Reference: q-38b5c09d-48 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 12 : 7

    A/C = (A/B) × (B/C) = (6/2) × (4/7) = 24/14, so A : C = 12 : 7.
  8. 8. Find the fourth proportional to 8, 32 and 7.
    1. 31
    2. 28
    3. 34
    4. 1.75

Reference: q-1e1619b2-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: B. 28

    If 8 : 32 = 7 : x, then x = 32 × 7 / 8 = 28.
  9. 9. Find the mean proportional between 12 and 27.
    1. 16
    2. 19
    3. 18
    4. 19.5

Reference: q-f89378f8-46 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 18

    Mean proportional = √(12 × 27) = √324 = 18.
  10. 10. Two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 9 and their sum is 168. Find the difference between the numbers.
    1. 52
    2. 48
    3. 108
    4. 60

Reference: q-f530549d-98 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: B. 48

    The numbers are 5x and 9x with 14x = 168, so x = 12. Difference = 4 × 12 = 48.
