Take the test first if you want an honest score. The answers and solutions below are folded away until you open them.

  1. 1. Rs. 333 is divided between A and B in the ratio 5 : 4. Find the larger share.
    1. Rs. 148
    2. Rs. 296
    3. Rs. 74
    4. Rs. 185

Reference: q-13b1799a-78 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. Rs. 185

    Each part = 333 / 9 = 37. The larger share = 5 × 37 = Rs. 185.
  2. 2. If A : B = 6 : 2 and B : C = 4 : 2, find A : C.
    1. 6 : 1
    2. 5 : 2
    3. 3 : 1
    4. 3 : 2

Reference: q-52efa044-48 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 6 : 1

    A/C = (A/B) × (B/C) = (6/2) × (4/2) = 24/4, so A : C = 6 : 1.
  3. 3. Find the fourth proportional to 7, 35 and 8.
    1. 1.6
    2. 36
    3. 40
    4. 44

Reference: q-a0dc99a5-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 40

    If 7 : 35 = 8 : x, then x = 35 × 8 / 7 = 40.
  4. 4. Find the mean proportional between 16 and 25.
    1. 20
    2. 23
    3. 21
    4. 20.5

Reference: q-5adad84e-46 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 20

    Mean proportional = √(16 × 25) = √400 = 20.
  5. 5. Two numbers are in the ratio 4 : 9 and their sum is 195. Find the difference between the numbers.
    1. 60
    2. 79
    3. 75
    4. 135

Reference: q-d0b7b7ac-98 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 75

    The numbers are 4x and 9x with 13x = 195, so x = 15. Difference = 5 × 15 = 75.
  6. 6. Rs. 288 is divided between A and B in the ratio 4 : 5. Find the smaller share.
    1. Rs. 160
    2. Rs. 96
    3. Rs. 64
    4. Rs. 128

Reference: q-56790028-79 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. Rs. 128

    Each part = 288 / 9 = 32. The smaller share = 4 × 32 = Rs. 128.
  7. 7. If A : B = 2 : 5 and B : C = 5 : 3, find A : C.
    1. 7 : 8
    2. 6 : 25
    3. 2 : 3
    4. 3 : 2

Reference: q-1d85d9f-48 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 2 : 3

    A/C = (A/B) × (B/C) = (2/5) × (5/3) = 10/15, so A : C = 2 : 3.
  8. 8. Find the fourth proportional to 8, 32 and 5.
    1. 18
    2. 1.25
    3. 20
    4. 29

Reference: q-9e1b6060-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: C. 20

    If 8 : 32 = 5 : x, then x = 32 × 5 / 8 = 20.
  9. 9. Find the mean proportional between 2 and 32.
    1. 11
    2. 17
    3. 9
    4. 8

Reference: q-1d295145-45 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 8

    Mean proportional = √(2 × 32) = √64 = 8.
  10. 10. Two numbers are in the ratio 7 : 8 and their sum is 105. Find the difference between the numbers.
    1. 1
    2. 56
    3. 49
    4. 7

Reference: q-759194f7-98 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 7

    The numbers are 7x and 8x with 15x = 105, so x = 7. Difference = 1 × 7 = 7.
