Geometry: key points

Geometry and mensuration questions deal with the angles, lengths, areas and volumes of plane and solid figures.

  • Rectangle: area = l × b, perimeter = 2(l + b).
  • Circle: area = πr², circumference = 2πr.
  • The angles of a triangle add up to 180°. In a right-angled triangle, hypotenuse² = base² + height².
  • Polygon with n sides: sum of interior angles = (n − 2) × 180°, diagonals = n(n − 3) / 2.
  • Cube of edge a: volume = a³, total surface area = 6a².

How to practise Geometry

Start with the key points, then take one Geometry test without rushing. Review every explanation, note the steps you missed and repeat the topic against the clock. APTITUDE TESTER has 20 questions in 2 tests for this topic.

  • Read the method before attempting a timed test.
  • Record mistakes by type: concept, calculation or time management.
  • Return to the hardest questions after a day and try them again.

Sample Geometry questions

  1. 1. Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length is 14 cm and breadth is 4 cm.
    1. 36 cm
    2. 56 cm
    3. 32 cm
    4. 48 cm

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: A. 36 cm

    Perimeter = 2 × (length + breadth) = 2 × 18 = 36 cm.
  2. 2. Find the area of a circle of radius 14 cm. (Take π = 22/7)
    1. 647 sq cm
    2. 308 sq cm
    3. 88 sq cm
    4. 616 sq cm

    Reference: q-321c5633-59 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: D. 616 sq cm

    Area = πr² = 22/7 × 14 × 14 = 616 sq cm.
  3. 3. Two angles of a triangle measure 62° and 56°. Find the third angle.
    1. 242°
    2. 62°
    3. 28°
    4. 82°

    Reference: q-38fddf5f-68 · Report this question

    Show answer and solution

    Answer: B. 62°

    The angles of a triangle add up to 180°. Third angle = 180° − 62° − 56° = 62°.
